Dr Louise Garcia-Rodriguez is a Perinatal Psychiatrist devoted to supporting women through every stage of the reproductive journey—from preconception and fertility challenges, to pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. She has a particular interest in hormone-sensitive mental health conditions and the profound changes in the maternal brain during pregnancy and after birth.
Her patients describe her care as compassionate, thoughtful, and deeply attuned to the unique challenges women face. Dr Garcia-Rodriguez combines clinical expertise with a warm, collaborative style that helps women feel safe, understood, and supported as they navigate periods of transition. Alongside her private practice, Dr Garcia-Rodriguez is a Consultant Psychiatrist with the Statewide Women’s Mental Health Service at The Alfred Hospital and works as a Perinatal and Infant Psychiatrist at the Royal Women’s Hospital. She treats a wide spectrum of concerns, including anxiety, depression, PMDD, bipolar disorder, ADHD in the perinatal period, postpartum psychosis, complex trauma, and OCD. She is also committed to advancing women’s mental health through education and research, having held an honorary lecturer position at the University of Melbourne. Her dual role as clinician and educator reflects her belief that some of the most valuable insights come not only from research—but from listening to the women she works with. Outside of psychiatry, she enjoys learning French and spending time with her family. Please note: Dr Garcia-Rodriguez focuses exclusively on therapeutic care and does not provide medico-legal reports or third-party assessments (e.g., for insurers, employers, or legal purposes). Background Dr Garcia-Rodriguez holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Manchester and a Masters of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. She completed her specialist medical training through The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Children’s Hospital and Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and a member of the Section of Perinatal and Infant Psychiatry. |
