Dr Juliana Loming is an adult psychiatrist, with a special interest in women’s health and perinatal psychiatry. She currently holds public consultant appointments at Mercy Health Mother Baby Services’ outpatient clinic and the Centre for Women’s Mental Health at Royal Women’s Hospital concurrently with her private practice, at The Village Family Mental Health Specialists, Newport and Gertrude Street Clinic, Fitzroy.
Dr Loming provides care in the full spectrum of adult psychiatry, with a special interest in women’s health, in particular perinatal psychiatry. She sees women in the preconception period, in pregnancy and in the post-partum period. Her work includes guidance in managing mental health during these periods, advice around medication during preconception, pregnancy and breastfeeding, adjustment to parenting, parent-infant attachment and relationship issues.
Dr Loming is a warm and compassionate practitioner who values each patient as an individual, providing a collaborative approach to their care. She is mindful of the vulnerable states in which pregnant and postnatal women can find themselves, and she uses both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology (where necessary) to assist women to optimally manage mood disturbances at these times.
Dr Loming completed her Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery from University of Otago, and completed her specialist medical training at The Alfred Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. She completed her final advanced training at Mercy Werribee Mother Baby Unit and Royal Melbourne Eating Disorders Unit. She was awarded her Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. She also completed her Masters degree in Psychological Medicine from University of Melbourne and has commenced postgraduate training in Psychotherapy.
Dr Loming has held consultant public and teaching appointments at St Vincent's Hospital and Mercy Health, in areas of general adult acute and community psychiatry, prior to focusing on her special interest in perinatal psychiatry.
